AMD Releases FidelityFX Super Resolution Plugin For Unreal Engine 4
This should help popularize the FSR technology. As promised, AMD has released an FSR plug-in for Unreal Engine 4. Along with the plug-in, AMD has provided a quick overview with recommended settings for each of the FSR modes. The scaling effect can be changed using the ScreenPercentage parameter.
Ultra quality: r.ScreenPercentage 77
Creates an image with a quality that is virtually indistinguishable from a natural image. It should be chosen when the highest quality is required.
Quality: r.ScreenPercentage 67
Creates an ultra-high resolution image with natural image quality with significant performance gains.
Balanced: r.ScreenPercentage 59
Creates an ultra-high resolution image that is close to the rendering quality of the original format, with a large performance boost over the original quality.
Performance: r.ScreenPercentage 50
Significantly affects image quality and should only be selected when the need for additional performance is particularly important. Additionally, AMD noted that the FSR plugin already has Contrast Adaptive Sharpening, which means developers should make sure existing CAS integrations are disabled in advance. The FSR can then act as a secondary upscaler, otherwise the TAAU upscaling method will take precedence.
AMD FSR currently works with Unreal Engine version 4.271.1, but is not compatible with Unreal Engine 5. In this regard, NVIDIA is in a better position to provide DLSS plugins for UE4 and UE5.
